Prayer October 2009– unblocking wells

6th October 2009

At the BCF meeting on Sunday afternoon, Peter Lyne talked from the book of Genesis about unblocking wells, and the need to do that in the areas we live and in our own lives. It would be good to pick this up and pray that in the different areas we are focusing on as a church in this season, Blackhorse, Thornbury and Cotham, wells would be unblocked.

Let’s pray for each other and ourselves that we will stir ourselves up, be open to the Holy Spirit, and if necessary clear blockages which could get in the way, whether sin, apathy, or whatever. Let’s keep responding to what was said– I know I need to!

Prayer of Sir Francis Drake

15th January 2008

Prayer of Sir Francis Drake

Disturb us, Lord, when we are too well pleased with ourselves,
When our dreams have come true Because we have dreamed too little,
When we arrived safely Because we sailed too close to the shore.

Disturb us, Lord, when With the abundance of things we possess
We have lost our thirst For the waters of life;
Having fallen in love with life, We have ceased to dream of eternity
And in our efforts to build a new earth, We have allowed our vision Of the new Heaven to dim.

Disturb us, Lord, to dare more boldly, To venture on wider seas
Where storms will show your mastery;
Where losing sight of land, We shall find the stars.
We ask You to push back The horizons of our hopes;
And to push into the future In strength, courage, hope, and love.

This was used by Maggie Ellis on Jan 13th at the Grange.
