Summer evening

BISC

19th August 2010

BISC (Bristol International Student Centre) have a Welcome for students arriving in Bristol in the Autumn, between 7 September and 2 October.

If you are able to help out in any of the following areas, get in touch with BISC through their website, by August 30th.

Driving Students Around Bristol
Picking students up from the bus or train station; taking them to see accommodation that BISC has arranged.

Providing Accomodation
Often international students arrive without accommodation; so being able to offer a room for a night or two is a great help.

Welcome Meals
Between 22– 25 Sept and 27 Sept– 2 Oct, BISC provides meals for up to 400 students. Teams who can give an evening to cook, serve and wash-up are needed. All food, equipment and instructions provided by BISC.

BISC Welcome Desk
Between 9:30– 5pm help is needed at the Welcome desk at UWE and the bus and train stations.

Resound Walkathon– 11 July

17th May 2010

An exciting day for those who want to help raise funds for the Resound building. It starts at 11 am with a sponsored Walkathon along the Bristol-Bath Cycle path with 1,3,6 & 10 mile options, so should include all fitness abilities. If you are unable to walk (or run) it, then you might like to be a marshal. We need one more cyclist, 2 first aiders and 5 groups of 3 to man the drink and check in points. Some drivers will be required to pick up if needed. If you want to take part in either walking, marshalling or encouraging friends and family members to join in, or require more information, contact Nikki Mills on nikkiamills@hotmail.co.uk

Once all the walkers have finished there will be a time for bacon butties, fun and games, cake stall, bouncy castle and other entertainment at the Blackhorse Road playing field, (next to the cricket pavilion on Blackhorse Rd).

This will be a chance to recover from all the exertion and relax with some very reasonably priced food and games. So join us between 1:30 and 4:30 to celebrate all our hard work during the day!

The Resound Centre will be a new community building for Mangotsfield/Emerson’s Green with state of the art facilities. Resound will be home to a community arts centre, preschool, and local church. Our aim is to serve the local community and we believe that together we can make a really positive contribution to the life of Mangotsfield/Emersons Green and beyond.

A video showing a 3D representation of the approved plans for the building can be seen below.

For more info about the walk itself or to book a place, download the relevant forms by clicking here.
