Thornbury Together– 20 July– 3 August

Two years ago, the churches in Thornbury (including BCF) all worked together to provide two weeks of fun and events for the community. Everyone found the experience so enjoyable and encouraging that they have decided to do a similar fortnight this summer, called Thornbury Together.

In over 1500 places in the UK, churches are working together throughout 2008 to engage more closely with the communities surrounding them, as part of Hope 08.

In Thornbury, there will be an opening event at the Leisure Centre on July 20th.

Events for young people will include dance workshops, a drop-in chill-out and skate and band events. Pete Osborne and BCF young people will be involved.

For children, there will be a musical festival for primary school choirs and Kidz Roadshows.

Events for everyone will include a pub quiz, a walking treasure hunt, a Barn Dance, a walk and cream tea, and a breakfast with Steve Webb MP, who is on the Council of Reference for Hope 08.

During the afternoon of 3rd August, there will be a fun day for all the family on the Chantry Field.

For more information or to volunteer please contact Terry Wood or Roger Allen.

The programme of events for the fortnight can be downloaded here.

Hope 2008

24th January 2008

Hope 2008 is intended to provide churches of all shapes and sizes throughout the UK with a fresh opportunity to work together across their communities over a twelve month period.

Many of us were involved in or heard stories from The Message 2000 (Manchester) or Soul in the City (London) in 2004 and were left with a strong desire for our town or city to be next in line. In Bristol, we were involved with Love Bristol Festival during Summer 2006 and saw South Bristol impacted.
In a number of other locations, such as Thornbury, churches worked together as part of what seemed to be a new wave of missions. This activity was built on years of faithful prayer and a commitment to work together. In many cases young people played a key role.

Do more, do it together, do it in word and action.

To find out more about what is happening across the Bristol region visit: www.hope08bristol.net or come to a Hope08 networking lunchtime seminar, hosted by BCAN, on March 8th (12 to 2pm), in the basement of Woodlands Christian Centre.

If you are a student or young person, find out about
Hope Revolution or chat to Ben Payne or Pete Osborne

In BCF we will be having our own Festival, from July 5th to 13th. To find out more chat to Neil Edbrooke.

We will also be involved in Thornbury Together 19th July to August 3rd, with the young people playing a key role again.

BCFers will take part in other events connected to Hope 08. For example, Fran Kidd will be helping lead sports events over the summer, with World Sports Ministries (see http://www.worldsportministries.com/ )

To find out more about Hope08 in Bristol or to say how you are getting involved, please contact Roger Allen.

M68 2008

11th July 2007

M68 is BCF’s gap year course. It’s an opportunity to ‘make new friendships, learn through doing, discover more about ourselves, our world and our creator’. We’re looking into the possibility of running the course again in the 2008-2009 academic year. So if you’re interested, or want to know more, please get in touch.

For more information, please contact Pete Osborne at the BCF Office.

BCF Audit

17th January 2007

As a leadership team, we want to ensure that BCF is being as
effective as it can be in all areas of church life. Over the past month we’ve invited people to fill out a questionnaire about the church– thanks to all those who participated. We are looking at the responses and taking your thoughts seriously.
